The City of Ember Instructions

In the book the city of ember. lina's little sister ate up the important instructions to help them save the city.  We had a look at the chewed up instructions and tried to figure it out. This is what we came up with.

About the City of Ember.

The city of ember is a book about two twelve year olds that have been assigned their jobs as pipe worker and messenger. Their names are Lina and Doon.  Doon is always exploring their city and whats in it, he works at the pipe works. Leena, on the other hand is athletic.  she runs everywhere so that suites her job as she is a messenger. But one day, Lina found a mysterious box in her wardrobe it was open. She turned around and Poppy, Her little sister was eating the pieces of paper that was in the box. Her Grandma knew about this box. Her husband was the seventh mayor of the city. his job was to look after the box. He died before he could tell anyone to look after it. the City of ember is a planned city that is running out of resources. This piece of paper in this box is instructions of how to escape the city. And the instructions are based in the pipe works...

Reflection

At school We are looking at this book called the City of Ember.  I really enjoy this book because I like to Predict what happens next. This is a mysterious, exciting, adventurous book. Its the type of book that you don't want to stop reading. I would recommend it to others And I enjoy reading it in class.

This term I have been learning a variety of strategies. To record what I've learnt I used an app called Explain everything. I thought that this strategy was easy after I learnt it properly.

We were learning about the different parts of a daffodil. We have also been looking at drawing a daffodil, Then we started looking at diamante poems . A Diamante poem is a bunch of words ( Verbs, Nouns & adjectives) That create a diamond looking shape .

Liked looking at all the different interesting words.

I enjoyed doing this activity and I hope this will help me with my vocabulary in my writing.

This year I participated in our schools netball team. We went to alot of different schools and won the majority of all the games. I liked to be a part of this sports group.

This year in class our topic is about natural disasters and civil defence. We have be looking at Volcanic eruptions , tsunamis and earthquakes.

On this piece of art we are learning about different ways to paint. We looked at dragging , Sponging at tapping. This was a fun piece of art I enjoyed doing it.

This year I wrote a speech about Endangered and extinct animals.

This is because of all the predators around.

I was one of the two people in our class that got into the speech finals along with Vacha.  I came third this year.I deffinatly enjoy doing speeches.

My Reflection

Over the last term we have been looking at a book called The Cry of the Taniwha.

It is about Two boys called Mat and Jackson/Juzza

We looked at the character and got to choose which character we would like to choose.

I chose the character Mat.

We were looking at the characters personality, what people think of him and what he really is. I thought that this was easy to do because I knew the character really well because I knew the story well.

My next step is to use this strategy more in my head while I'm reading my books.

The three natural desasters we have been looking at are Volcanic eruptions, Earthquakes and tsunamies because it's more likely for these things to happen in our area. So during the last couple weeks in our class we have been working on doing Volcano art.

I have been learning to summarise and record my research in my own words.

I found this tricky to do because I couldn't think of words to replace of sentences.

I think I will find this planning helpful for my writing because it gives me an idea of what actually happens in a eruption. My next step is to use the enviroment around me to look for for words.

I am learning to compare fractions.

I thought that this specific fraction was easy to do , I would really like to learn how to do harder fractions.

My next step is to learn how to do improper fractions and fractions with different denominators and numerators.

Understanding a Character's Impact

I was learning to understand the characters impact on the story.
I felt interested in this learning because I have trouble understanding the characters lots of stories.
The The thing that helped me most was that we talked about all of the words that helped me understand the characters Feelings or actions. Which helped me understand the characters better.
My next step would be to use the same strategies in my independent reading time.

This year I am part of our school Councillors.  This is the most important roll in the school and we get to do lots of things just like going round and helping people. On Friday ( 4/4/14 ) they are announcing the Head Boy and Head Girl hopefully I might get it .

We did very well! And lots of us got into the finals .  But there is one person who got third in the championship!  well done everyone!

I.A.L.T Compare characters. I compared Jesse and Leslie from the book Bridge to terrabithia.

I thought this activity was easy because I could get examples from the book that helped me make my own.

My Next step is to think about who am I more like and What I have in common with these Characters.

My reflection
I was learning that numbers can be made and broken in a number of ways.

I thought that this activity was hard and easy at doing.  I think it was hard because I was trying to think of more outgoing ideas.
I think it was easy because I found one really long pattern.

My next step is to look for more complicated patterns.

                                     I have been learning to write a Did You Ever poem.
   I felt that this poem was too easy because it didn't take me long to write, although it's good to practice               
                                                   to use my wow words in a sentences

I think it was good and bad to do this poem.  I enjoyed doing this poem, it was fun to do.

I think next time I will tell the teacher that it was too easy and ask for something more challenging.
